Day 151 - A Television Show Got In The Way Of My Workout
So I did a very adult thing this morning and set up a Roth IRA. This is something I have no clue about and is somewhat nerve racking to me, sending in a monthly check and hoping that my money gets invested wisely and sets me up for a nice retirement. I know this is a very smart move on my part and something that needs to be done but I wish I was more educated on the stock market, mutual funds, and the sorts. Why do they not stress teaching us money management and looking to the future more in school? I feel a little lost but know that with time I would have made the smart choice when I’m 65 and my hardest choice I have to make is deciding between coffee or tea with breakfast.
After that hour long meeting this morning it was time to go grocery shopping. After driving an hour across town to get back to my city I shopped and headed home. When we got home I turned on the television while waiting for the baby to fall asleep. Not what I normally do. Why I did it? I have no clue. All of a sudden the remote was in my hand and the television was on. I got so wrapped up in a show that an hour had passed since the baby had fallen asleep. Once I snapped out of my television trance I went to get ready to workout and that is when I heard the call of mama duty. He had woke from nap and now it was time to be on baby duty. There went my workout time to myself.
Can’t promise myself that tomorrow will go any better with working out since I have a mile long to do list in order to get ready for a long road trip to my dad’s house for the weekend.
Here I go yesterday ranting about all of the weight loss ads and now all of a sudden a Quaker Oatmeal one pops up. Ha ha! Proves me to be a liar.
Money under the mattress has always served me well. Your companies HR rep. should be able to explain the Roth IRA to a level that you can understand easily. I think mine even drew stick figures and dollars signs on a napkin.
Company’s* and I’m an idiot.
It’s hard when you have a little one that needs your attention.
You could promise yourself that tomorrow will go better though.
Just come up with a plan of how you could make it better just even in a small way.
Maybe you could take baby for a walk and get some exercise that way.
It would be good for both of you.
Maybe you could do some jumping jacks next time you find yourself glued to the TV.
Even if baby’s awake I am sure he would find it amusing.
Have a great day tomorrow!

Lori
PS Good for you for being responsible with your finances
feels good doesnt it?
You are doing awesome my dear…one day of relaxing is not going to kill you!! And don’t forget that running erronds and all that does add up and burns calories too!!! Keep it up lady!!

My, you *are* grown up! I’m impressed!
I have done that before, had every intention of working out and then I just let the time slip by.
Oh well, you will just be even more determined tomorrow!
Good for you on the IRA!! I also like Lori’s suggestion of walking with your little one.
Love your picture, btw!
Lori - That is great advice. When he was immobile he would laugh hysterically when I would workout in the house watching me jump around like a monkey making him laugh in between sets. Now that he is up and moving around he demands my attention and makes it very difficult to workout without fear out accidentally hitting him when my arms fly up in the air. Ha ha! I still am very active throughout the day though.
Rachel - So true! Some days my arms feel like jello from all of the times I lift him up and down. It’s exhausting.
Jessica - Thank you! I think I grew up too fast. My mom always use to tell people I was (insert age) going on 30 when I was still living at home.
Andrea - I’m looking at my list of to dos and to bbe completely honest working out is not near the ttop. More like below a nap after all that I need tto accomplish this morning. Which in reality means… it ain’t happenin’!
Good for you. Thats not even something I have thought to do,though I know I should.
Dealing with a baby and doing housework can be a workout all by itself. Maybe include baby in your workouts..like using him to bench press.
There are some great books out there on money management. The one I have wouldn’t be available anywhere but I will let you know if I find others!!
Ok I didn’t mean money management like budgeting necessarily, I meant explaining IRA and other things like that as you were talking about!
Tiffany - When I walk on the treadmill a lot I’ll put him in the Baby Bjorn carrier. He loves it. It’s just easier when he is down for a nap. But like I said, some days, all of the lifting him up and putting him down is a workout in itself.
Rach - Thank you. I just ordered a book today about it.
i totally understand the mom thing. i cant get anything done around the house when its just me and my little girl home. exp not work out
Jessica, isn’t she so mature? I told her that before too
I bet ur mama is sooo proud of u
Sounds like u do plenty to break a sweat without a formal workout? I am happy to hear u doing well
